Iya Aabo features a mother who has used fabric to secure her child on her back, a method very common in the upbringing of an African child. This represents some of the earliest experiences I had with being nurtured, loved, and protected and secured.  My mother was no longer alive when I painted this so it was an emotional experience creating it with her in mind.
